US Revenue Cutter Service sword
$2,200.00

Extremely rare Spanish American War period US Revenue Cutter Service officer's sword.  Standard US Naval Officers sword pattern adapted for the cutter service.  Blade etched "USRCS" along with normal patriotic etching.  On the hilt, where you would normally find the "US", there is "USRCS".  Blade in very nice condition.  Leather scabbard seperated near the drag.  Hilt finely chideled with heavy ray skin and twisted wire grip.  Crack at thumb piece.  Reverse of scabbard engraved "EWD".  Period research indicates only one matching set of officer's initials to a 2nd Assistant Engineer Edwin W. Davis who served on the USS William Windom, later the Comanche, which served with the North Atlantic Squadron during the Span-Am War.  Predecessors of the IRS, Cutter Service items are quite rare.
